Video: Reflections on the Revolution in France
04/03/2019
Videos
Anne-Elisabeth Moutet, Ulla Terkelsen and Eszter Petronella Soós on the political situation in France.
The Republic of France is in a challenging position:

• Unemployment is over 9% yet economic growth is under 1%

• France maintains one of the highest tax rates in the OECD at 45 percent

• Public spending is at 57% yet approximately 14% of the population lives in poverty.

What are the options available to President Macron, who came into office on a surge of good will but who now has sunk to 24% approval rating in the latest polls?

Anne-Elisabeth Moutet is a columnist for the Daily and Sunday Telegraph (London) and a regular contributor to the BBC, CapX and the New York Post. She comments on the week’s news on ARTE television’s 28 Minutes talk show in Paris, and is also a frequent guest on France Info radio and BFM News television.  She sits on the Steering Committee of the Club of Three (London). She is a Distinguished Senior Fellow of the Gatestone Institute and sits on the Board of Governors of Gatestone Europe. She is a co-founder and vice-president of the Institut Jean-Jacques Rousseau in Paris.  In the past, she was a foreign correspondent for the Sunday Times (London), Paris Bureau Chief for The European, France Editor for Newsweek Europe, and a regular contributor to the Weekly Standard.

Eszter Petronella Soós holds an MA in political science (ELTE ÁJK, 2009), and an MA in French language and literature (ELTE, BTK, 2008). Specialized in contemporary French politics, she is a PhD student at ELTE Doctoral School of Political Science. Beyond her freelance consultancy and writing activities, she is also a guest lecturer at ELTE Faculty of Law and at Mathias Corvinus Collegium, and a senior lecturer at Milton Friedman University.

Ulla Terkelsen has been the correspondent of countless places. These include London, Washington and Kabul. She has been employed at the Danish TV 2 since 1987, and has, among other things, won the Publicist Prize in 2007 and The Berlingske Journalistpris in 2005. Author of several different books. Most recently "We can sleep in the airplane" from 2011.  Today, she works as an international correspondent based in Paris, from where she has covered the terrorist attacks in Paris in 2015. She also regularly reports from a number of European countries, including the UK, Germany and Italy.
