Lockdown Diaries with Douglas Murray, bestselling author

President of Danube Institute John O'Sullivan talks about Douglas Murray's latest book, 'The Madness of Crowds: Gender Race and Identity'.

The Madness of Crowds comes out of The Strange Death of Europe. It comes from the same vacuum that Murray describes in two of the chapters, in particular, in The Strange Death of Europe, which is this question of what you do to fill the void. Identity politics is one answer to that, and he happesn to think it’s a terrible answer to it. It is to say people will find meaning in their lives by pursuing social justice causes on behalf of minority groups, and of warring on a perceived mainstream.

According to Douglas Murray, The Madness of the Crowds is to say is highly divisive, it divides men from women, it divides gay people from straight people, it divides white people from everybody else, because white people are said to be responsible for all the ills of the world, it furthers division, rather than healing it, which is part of the point incidentally. And so he wants just, particularly young people, not to fall into this very retributive, ugly form of living and to realize that their lives should really be spent on almost anything else, other than this.
